The Path of Ambition is made from segments of Schedule 40 black steel pipe. The Schedule 40 designation means that the pipe’s wall thickness will always be consistent for a given nominal pipe size, enabling its use for water, plumbing, and gas lines of medium pressure. Its segments are cut with 5-degree angles on both ends and welded together internally. These pipes are smooth, sleek, strong, and straight. What resulted from cutting them into pieces and assembling those pieces into a slightly curved, but upright form, reminded me of the path we take as we find our way in our lives. Paths that are not straight, but hopefully allow us forward progress, and sometimes feel like we are bending steel to get where we aim to be.
